I DON’T WANT TO WAKE UP
And face the day without you—
but I roll out of bed like a well-trained
soldier and report for duty at the crack of dawn.
I explore the rocky shore searching for anything
that may have been washed ashore in a falling tide.
Surprised to find an oversized lobster swimming around
in a flooded estuary under jellyfish and gobs of seaweed.
Like a primitive man I grab the lobster and bash him over
the head with an enormous rock so he feels no panic
when I later drop him into boiling water.
The lobster tastes of the ancient sea.
You would have enjoyed watching me eat it as you always did.
Where are you now? I miss you every moment of every day.
